Groin Strains/Pulls and Tears

A muscle strain is a mild tear of a muscle that can progress to a full tear if more severe. The groin muscles (inner thigh) can be injured when stretched quickly during activities such as performing the splits, during a slip and fall, or during activities that heavily use these muscles, such as running, sprinting, and jumping.

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS:

  • Pain
  • Tenderness along inner thigh
  • Decreased range of motion
  • Decreased strength
  • Difficulty with weight bearing due to pain

HOW CAN PHYSICAL THERAPY HELP?

PT can help by decreasing pain in the early stages with modalities and manual therapy, then gradually returning full motion and strength.
