Biceps Strains

The bicep is the muscle on the front of your upper arm that primarily works to bend your elbow. A strain is a mild pull of a muscle and bicep strains usually occur with either repetitive activities involving bending the elbow or during high force activities such as weightlifting or sports.

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS:

  • Pain
  • Swelling
  • Tenderness
  • Decreased range of motion and strength in bicep area

HOW CAN PHYSICAL THERAPY HELP?

PT can help through the use of manual therapy, stretching, strengthening and modalities to relieve pain, restore full range of motion and strength for functional activities. *NOTE: A Bicep tear is a severe form of a bicep strain, resulting in more significant disruption of the muscle fibers. Often, surgical repair is required. In these cases, your surgeon will give specific post-operative instructions to PT and we will work to return your range of motion, strength and function. In these cases, the components of PT are similar, but the recovery process is longer due to the more significant injury.
